As Emerging Ministries Director of Best Christian Workplaces Institute, Kevin conducts research and analysis, and he provides consulting for organizations seeking more specialized assistance in improving organizational trust, communications, and leadership.

Prior to his work with BCWI and the Employee Engagement Survey, Kevin completed a 30-year career as a Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he held various leadership positions, including command of an Air Station and search and rescue for the Northwest part of the United States. Throughout his career, he has studied and practiced leadership in a wide array of environments. With a focus on using data for decision making, he developed a readiness management system based on real-time data, which was eventually adopted as a Coast Guard-wide system.  Kevin also worked closely with volunteers and became proficient in managing and motivating the volunteer workforce while integrating their efforts with paid staff.

Kevin has been the Business Administrator for and has served as the chair of the elder board at Evergreen Covenant Church. This combination of military leadership and management, volunteer management, and faith-based organization management and leadership has equipped Kevin with a unique set of tools and perspectives.

Kevin graduated with an engineering degree from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT; he is a graduate of Naval Aviation Training; and he received his M.B.A. from Purdue University, graduating as a Krannert Scholar. He continued his post-graduate work in a specialized program in political science from George Washington University. Kevin is married to Bobette (Van Vleet) from Oakland, CA, and has four adult children: Derrick, Michael, Joseph, and Nicole.  He is delighted to be a grandfather.
