Vanessa serves BCWI as the Executive Assistant for our Leadership Team. She worked with us in 2016-2017 as a Project Specialist but left to run her own community benefit organization full time. When the opportunity for one of her employees to take over as CEO, she reached out to BCWI to return to our staff. And we are thrilled to have her back!
A life-long entrepreneur with a BS in Marketing from California State University, Fresno, Vanessa and her husband, Matt, first opened a shirt shop focused on fraternities and sororities, with clients across the U.S. and Canada. After a mission trip to Africa, Matt returned with a word from God to sell their business to go into full time ministry. They both worked at the church where Matt grew up, but Vanessa always had some kind of business venture going – teaching people how to scrapbook or how tell their story through custom jewelry.
In 2013, she felt led to open a non-profit. Back in the shirt business, Vanessa worked with schools and staffed her Shoppe with interns from Fresno State and youth from the church. Over the last 9 years, she has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to her community. She will miss her time in that role but is excited for what God has planned for her at BCWI and in her personal life.
Vanessa loves spending time with her family: Matt and their son and daughter-in-law. They are gradually learning how to be empty nesters, as they share a home with Vanessa’s grandmother–so it is not quite empty yet. She loves Broadway shows and historical fiction. After the long season of focusing on her business, Vanessa looks forward to serving her community on the board of a local non-profit that helps cancer survivors and families of cancer patients. At church, she mentors the Young Marrieds group and loves to hold their babies whenever she can.
